Greg Horn - (2016) Pointless LP

Vinyl-on-demand ‎– VOD146

One of the highlights of V-o-D’s ‘80s Minimal.Synth.Wave Vol. IV American Edition boxset, Greg Horn’s Pointless is one of those gems that may have remained down the back of the sofa were it not for Frank Maier’s dedication.

Greg Horn is probably best known to wave collectors for his cranky, cultish ace Das Funk Ist Verboten, but, Pointless, which was self-issued on tape in 1985, reveals his more popwise strengths, albeit pop with a strong side order of expressive oddness.

In twenty succinct parts, Horn makes sparing use of a his freaky vocals, coupled with samples and an instrumental palette ranging from punkish guitars to his more preferable synths and drum machines, twisted into woozy, downtempo boogies and wistful lonerisms interspersed with druggy tape FX. Ultimately yielding what sounds like the work of at least 4 different folk, but is actually testament to his unique diversity.
