Tuluum Shimmering - (2013) Ulau Tau / Spirit Of Sun LP
Aguirre Records – 031 https://www.mediafire.com/file/jfcod2ncq2k597b/Tuluum_Shimmering_%u200E-_%282013%29_Ulau_Tau__Spirit_Of_Sun_LP.rar/filehttps://www.mediafire.com/file/jfcod2ncq2k597b/Tuluum_Shimmering_%u200E-_%282013%29_Ulau_Tau__Spirit_Of_Sun_LP.rar/file
One of the most magical recordings you’ll hear this year is the first LP by Uk-based one-man trancedental-drone band Tuluum Shimmering. The sound of Tuluum Shimmering is like a sort of loop driven, timeless ethnic music without a region or a traditionThe recordings on the LP were made on a 4-track cassette recorder. On the A side there's: homemade bamboo xylophone, homemade flute, acoustic guitar customised with buzz bridge, Roland digital piano, vietnamese gong, cymbal, rattle. On the B side: homemade tamboura, various flutes, Roland digital piano, hand drums, vocals, tibetan singing bowl, snake charmer, rattle, saxophone all are run, via a mixer, through a multi-FX pedal into a 30-second looper, and out to an amp. Everything is recorded live, with no overdubs or mixing. Get ready for the take-off
Stara Rzeka - (2013) Cień Chmury Nad Ukrytym Polem
Instant Classic – 008
Cień Chmury nad Ukrytym Polem” is the title of debut album from Kuba Ziołek’s new project – Stara Rzeka. It’s really hard to define what is the „sound” of Stara Rzeka. Ziołek based his music on whispering, naked vocals and delicate song structure collapsing with drones. We recommend „Cień Chmury nad Ukrytym Polem” all fans of Grouper, Julian Lynch and Alexander Tucker. This album takes you into the woods.
Maher Shalal Hash Baz - (2009) C'est La Dernière Chanson 2xCD
K – 210
The name Maher Shalal Hash Baz comes from The Book of Isaiah, meaning plunder quickly. Tori Kudo, their conductor and band leader, fuses stray elements of pop, folk, jazz and experimental music into pieces of candid musical gestures. C'est La Derniere Chanson [KLP210] is compact and richly melodic; forgotten melodies played with a fragile trust.
C'est La Derniere Chanson is a double album of songs composed by Kudo between 2005-2007. For the recordings, Kudo assembled six musicians from Japan and bunkered down for six days in St. Pierre-Eglise, France to record and rehearse before playing an Atagatomuzi-K event in Cherbourg.
In addition to these mysterious band members Kudo also included a handful of local French musicians. The output from these sessions was one of the most prolific recordings done by Maher Shalal Hash Baz; more than 200 songs were recorded and 177 are presented on Chanson, Kudo's second release, the first being L'Autre Cap [KLP179], on K.
Bassoon, guitar, drums, trumpet, trombone, clarinet, glass percussion, organ, rocks and sticks are expanded by a sophisticated counter-repetition technique into an extensive tonal range of colors; the effect is at turns serene, dissonant, enchanting, crisp, spacious and maddeningly catchy. The future of music on Planet Earth. Listen closely, please.
Jiří Wehle - (2007) Zpívaná Poesie
Not On Label – none
He has been involved with music from his youth, he started with rock n' roll, after which he turned to folk and to Celtic music. In the eighties he had a band for which he wrote songs – usually music set to texts by Czech and foreign poets, as well as texts by his Father with whom he published a song book entitled "Songs of Our Family".
In the nineties his involvement with music grew and ultimately he left his former teaching profession to dedicate more time to playing music and to older musical instruments, which he also began to collect and play. For a number of years he worked as a street musician – primarily on Charles Bridge, at first with his friend Petr Opava an oboe player and later, alone, as a solo musician.
You can still run into him in the streets today – mainly in Nerudova street and at Malé náměstí in Prague. Over time he developed an interest in Medieval and ethnic musical instruments, initially in the Indian sitar and later on other string instruments (cittern, guittern, bouzouki, psalterium, etc...) Thereafter he also worked with wind instruments (recorders, shawms, crumhorns, schalmei, Bohemian bagpipes). Eventually he acquired a hurdy gurdy which in essence has become his key specialty and today he is practically a virtuoso in the playing of this unusual instrument.
However the hurdy gurdy is not the last instrument he was to acquire – it was followed by a small harp and will most likely be followed by other instruments yet. With each new instrument, new songs were written – some of which you will find in this collection. The recording includes both entirely new songs as well as older songs which he has come back to and to which he has given a new sound and musical arrangement.
Jiří Wehle founded several musical bands (Cantores Bohemiae, Jagabab, W.O.H.). At the present time he leads the band W.O.H and cooperates with other musicians and bands (for example German group Tippellklimper and Czech Piosenki). He also performs at castles, fairs and many historical events here and abroad.
Caroliner Rainbow Hernia Milk Queen - (1985) Rear End Hernia Puppet Show LP
BullsHit – 001
Something about Caroliner's particular strain of musical sickness prompts critics to trot out their most hyperbolic verbiage and the instinct it elicits in me is much the same (but then, when isn't that my instinct?), so allow me to direct my own ejaculations of adjective syrup in their general direction as well. This, the very first missive from the Caroliner mothership is a monster of deliciously diseased technicolor bulldada grotesquerie, this Bay Area mob's fully formed aesthetic universe of heatstroked and ergot poisoned hoot 'n' holler smurf-voiced avant rock cacophany completely in play even at this early stage. Subsequent releases (especially their masterstroke "I'm Armed With Qts. Of Blood", posted a while back by Jim) would refine their psychotic stratagems into something truly penetrating and hallucinatory, but the needle gunked lo-fi gruel of Residents/Beefheart/Butthole Surfers-informed insanity thats oozing out of the grooves here is as awe inspiring as the emptied-garbage-can packaging is disgusting (mine's got used kleenex, school notebook pages, broken LP's and a section of a veterinary journal...what's in yours?).
Shin Joong Hyun - (2011) Beautiful Rivers And Mountains The Psychedelic Rock Sound Of South Korea's Shin Joong Hyun 1958-1974 CD
Light In The Attic – 065

- Shin Joong Hyun’s tale is personal, spiritual, and deep, not only reflecting the full spectrum of human emotions, but one that produced reverberating echoes of sound, some beautiful and life-giving, others restless and ungovernable. For the first time outside of Korea, Shin’s music will be readily available to music lovers the world over. Light In The Attic are thrilled to release Beautiful Rivers And Mountains: The Psychedelic Rock Sound Of South Korea's Shin Joong Hyun 1958-1974, a career spanning CD, 2xLP, and Digital Download compilation of the diminutive guitarist, songwriter, producer, arranger, and talent developer.
- Inspired by jazz, soul, and traditional Korean music, Shin started his career in the mid-1950’s, performing for US troops stationed locally after the Korean War armistice of 1953. While his English language skills were limited, the young player had no trouble communicating through his trusty electric guitar, but Shin was no mere 6-string slinger for hire, he was able to communicate something far beyond your average professional musician. Production work and extensive songwriting followed, not to mention a steady stream of electrifying performances. Gaining momentum by the moment, Shin developed popular success across South Korea molding protégés like singing duo the Pearl Sisters and folk-psych songbird Kim Jung Mi into top pop stars. From there it was hit after hit. The late 1960’s rock explosion and an influx of imported music from The Beatles, Jimmy Smith, and The Jefferson Airplane all informed and inspired Mr. Shin to elevate his own craft. Even experimental trips via a crew of local hippies also took the music man to new heights despite Korean law forbidding such rebellion. Drug use was illegal and punishable as a serious offence. Park Chung-hee, then President of South Korea began to closely monitor Shin’s “subversive” activities. After refusing to write a song in praise of the political leader, the musician was labeled unpatriotic and his career was instantly snuffed-out through a series of surveillance, torture, and institutional confinement.
*While this was not the end of Shin's musical story, for an all-too-brief moment in Korean cultural history, Shin Joong Hyun and his talented accomplices laid down a trove of recordings that have slowly reverberated far from their native land. Beautiful Rivers And Mountains: The Psychedelic Rock Sound Of South Korea's Shin Joong Hyun 1958-1974 features Korean/English lyric translations, unseen pictures, beautiful graphic design, and extensive liner notes with Shin Joong Hyun. With loving attention to detail and Shin’s full blessing, we trust you’ll find this album as addictive as a bottle of your favorite Korean soju. So let’s raise a toast to Shin and his musical life! As they say in Seoul, “Gun Bae!!!”
