LITTLE ANNIE
Little Annie aka Annie Anxiety Bandez, is a smokey contralto, raconteur and restless spirit who has spent the last 30 years creating a body of work that would take much more space than available here to list. Since stepping onto her first stage at the age of 16, her music – and her life – has defied categorization, limitations and/or restrictions her life often imitating her art and visa versa. A native New Yorker she is a chanteuse and lyricist, a self-taught painter, and multimedia artist, She has recorded with vanguard figures of late twentieth century music -bringing a blend of tortured soul/ sardonic humor & wild love & awe of life to tracks she’s cut with everyone from Adrian Sherwood & the ON-U Sound Stable to Crass to Current 93, COIL, The Wolfgang Press, Jennie Mathias, Anthony Hegarty to Marc Almond. She is a prolific songwriter who has written for likes of the late Bim Sherman, Paul Oakenfold and most recently Living Color. She is a published author and a stage and screen actress. 2007 saw the release of SONGS FROM THE COAL MINE CANARY produced by aforementioned Antony Hegarty (of The Johnsons) and Joe Buedenholzer (Backworld) for Dutro Jnana/Southern. (“Strange Love”, from this LP, was featured in an award winning advert for Levis Jeans.) WHEN GOOD THINGS HAPPEN TO BAD PIANOS, a starkly powerful collection of re-imagined standards and covers, quickly followed and saw the creative relationship between Annie and Mr. Paul Wallfisch finally made legit and committed to record. The duo have spent much of the last 11 years touring extensively, selling out venues round the globe and bringing audiences to tears worldwide.
BABY DEE
A tall eccentric redhead from Cleveland, Ohio with a deep, haunting voice accompanied by portentous, dramatic piano, harp and accordion. She sings in a voice thar veers between Shirley Temple and Dame Vera Lynn. Contributor to debut album of Antony And The Johnsons - it was Hegarty who sent Dee's compositions to David Tibet (Current 93) who urged her to produce a solo album. Tibet later went on to release Baby Dee's first album on his label Durtro. Dee's discography now includes seven albums released by Tin Angel, Drag City and Durtro in the last ten years. Her infectious cackle and extraordinary talent has caught her many musical admirer including Michael Gira.Dee’s career has seen her perform worldwide with Will Oldham, who co-produced 'Safe Inside the Day' on Drag City 2008, with Matt Sweeney, Antony Hegarty, Marc Almond, Alex Neilson, David Tibet and Andrew WK - also producer of 'Regifted Light' released earlier this year. “a resonant tenor that occasionally rises in a counter screech or descends into a filthy, cackling vibrato rasp...Defiantly unclassifiable, away with the fairies, but a mesmerising class act.” Live Review, Frieze Art Fair Festival 2010
