Forced Down - (1992) A Cry For Truth 7''

…and the first time the DOWN SIDE logo was ever printed on something….we were off…. full of idealism, love and anger….of note is the liner note on the tape which was sort of a mission statement for us…..it read… As the social values in our society becomes more set in stone, the individual is forgotten. When what the individual stands for goes against the ideas of the mass, and is considered a threat to order, be it right or wrong—they are forced down— disciplined to maintain "the order" Some conform, some resist, some fall, and they are forgotten…. "time to rise from our knees and live on our feet"

Struggle - (1992) ST 7''

Before The Locust, before The Swing Kids, before Bread & Circuits there was a very young band from San Diego called Struggle. They were an energetic band that played brutal political hardcore that was powered by anger and youthful angst.
The early Struggle sound was heavily influenced by Downcast and Rorschach, and this first release was a powerful explosion of high energy hardcore. Furious and aggressive. Probably their best release.

The Swing Kids - (1994) ST 7''

Swing Kids were a post-hardcore band from San Diego California during the mid-1990s. They were closely involved with and influenced by the forerunners of the San Diego hardcore punk scene of the 1990s.

Their music was characterized by Justin Pearson's spoken/screamed vocals and their melodic/chaotic rhythms and song structures. Swing Kids were influenced[citation needed] by fellow San Diego bands Antioch Arrow and Drive Like Jehu. On a broader scale, their music and lyrics were influenced by post-punk.

Swing Kids are also credited with the unintentional creation of the fad "Spock Rock" during the mid-1990s; largely due to many of their fans emulating Pearson's fashion sense and hair style. The name comes from Leonard Nimoy's character from the Star Trek television series & films, and more specifically his haircut.

The Wedding Present - (1989) Bizarro CS

The Wedding Present's second proper studio album, Bizarro cut down a bit on the frenetic jangle the band was known for in its early days and replaced it with healthy doses of darkness and power. Adding some fuzzy, crunchy distortion to give the guitars some hefty impact, slowing the tempos down to speeds that allow vocalist David Gedge to squeeze more heartbroken despair and bleak sarcasm out of every line, and generally upping their game in every way, the album is the fullest realization of the Wedding Present's sound yet. Leading off with the unstoppably hooky "Brassneck," which features a brilliant Gedge reading of lines that rhyme "grow up" and "throw up," the album plays like a collection of thematically related singles. The most single-y among them is "Kennedy," which has some brilliant singalong lyrics and an intensely dramatic guitar strum buildup that crescendos into a maelstrom of sound. The rest of the record isn't far behind; whether it's the sparse "What Have I Said Now?" or the slowly grinding "Bewitched," one could extract any song and it would feel like a highlight -- even the epic-length "Take Me!," which closes the album in a fury of strums, drum fills, and chugging bass that builds and builds until it seems like the song is going to levitate and take the listener right along with it. The Wedding Present didn't necessarily need to improve their already winning template, but they did and it pays off big time on Bizarro.
